My core training is in Person-Centered Counselling (Pg. Diploma in Person-Centred Counselling studies from University of Strathclyde).
I have also trained in Parent Effective Training (PET), Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples (EFT), Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), Comprehensive Resource Model (CRM) and Level 1 Internal Family Systems (IFS).
The majority of my work involves conducting one-to-one sessions with individuals centred on personal growth, trauma recovery and empowerment. I tailor my therapeutic approach according to what each individual needs and wants to work on, integrating different therapeutic modalities as appropriate.
In my group work I bring my more creative aspects since, prior to my training to becoming a counsellor in 2009, I had studied and worked in design and fashion. Upon transitioning into counselling in my late thirties, I integrated my creative impulses and skills into my therapeutic practice, particularly within group settings. I firmly believe that creativity, be it through writing, role-playing, drawing or other artistic means, serves as a gateway to come into contact with parts of ourselves that are not easily accessible.
In 2018, my colleague and writer, Kostas Mavrakakis and I initiated a “Creative Writing and Self-Knowledge” seminar, aiming to nurture the creative process within a therapeutic setting. Through a series of tailored exercises, we facilitated the enhancement of the participant’s writing abilities, harnessing creative expression for both exploration and self-knowledge. The overwhelming demand led to the expansion of this seminar into a distinctive four-level program.
I have also organised and facilitated support groups for adults with ADHD, using a variety of exercises and different creative means in order for the group participants to gain helpful communication skills and a greater sense of empowerment.
For the past 24 years, my personal spiritual journey has provided the backdrop against which I’ve made choices and navigated life’s challenges. In the field of psychology, I encountered the ambiguity surrounding the concept of Self which is of paramount importance in esoteric teachings. Upon discovering the Internal Family Systems (IFS) model, I felt a great sense of relief and resonance. Finally, I found an approach that prioritised and included the Self as the central aspect of our being, recognising its significance as both healer and leader within our internal systems.
My intention and goal for the immediate future, is to complete the Level 2 and Level 3 IFS trainings.
I am active member of the Hellenic Association for Person-Centered and Experiential Approach (HAPCEA) and currently serving as its Treasurer on the Board of Directors.
I am also a member PCE Europe and of EMDR Hellas.
